Acute Toxicity of Heavy Metals and Organic Pesticides to Luminescent Bacteria Based on SOM Analysis

Abstract
In this study,we systematically evaluated the acute toxicity of 10 heavy metals and 10 organic pesticides using luminescence inhibition in Vibrio fischeri,as recommended by ISO.Differences and simi-larities in toxic effects of the tested substances were analyzed using Self-Organizing Map(SOM)neural network analysis.There were significant differences in the acute toxicities of the heavy metals and pesti-cides to luminescent bacteria.Based on the EC50 values,the toxicity of heavy metals ranked as follows:mercury II(mercuric chloride)>lead II(lead nitrate)>zinc II(zinc sulfate)>antimony III(potassium an-timony tartrate)>Iron III(ferric chloride)>cadmium II(cadmium chloride)>copper II(copper sul-fate)>nickel II(nickel chloride>chromium VI(potassium dichromate)>manganese II(manganese chlo-ride).The toxicity ranking of organic pesticides was as follows:imidacloprid>nicosulfuron>acet-amiprid>metalaxyl>glyphosate>triadimefon>cyfluthrin>trichlorfon>brassinolide>atrazine.Among them,mercury II(EC50=0.37 mg/L)and manganese II(EC50=257.48 mg/L)were the most and least toxic heavy metals.Imidacloprid(EC50=9.36 mg/L)and atrazine(EC50=6 044.52 mg/L)were the most and least toxic organic pesticides.SOM analysis shows that highly toxic pollutants(such as mercury II and imidacloprid)tended to cluster in high toxicity areas of the map,with similar EC50 value distribu-tion ranges(0.37-30.5 mg/L),indicating that their toxicity mechanisms to luminescent bacteria may be similar.Low toxicity pollutants such as atrazine,trichlorfon,and brassinolide distributed in another re-gion,with a wide range of EC50 values(2 244.92-6 044.52 mg/L),reflecting the significant differences in their toxicity.In addition,some heavy metals(such as mercury II and lead II)and pesticides(such as to-bacco,imidacloprid)exhibited a spatially adjacent distribution due to potentially similar mechanisms of action or metabolic pathways.In conclusion,our research elucidated the toxic action patterns of heavy metals and pesticides to luminescent bacteria,confirming the effectiveness of SOM in toxicity classifica-tion and mechanism exploration.The results of this study provide a reference for the biological toxicity test of environmental chemicals,and the emergency monitoring and ecological risk management of sud-den pollution events.关键词
