Fish Diversity and Conservation in the Duliu River

Abstract
The Duliu River is the source of Liujiang River and in this study we systematically examined fish community diversity and assessed fish resources in the Duliu River.The necessary data was obtained from five field surveys conducted at 34 sampling sites in the Duliu River basin from May 2020 to July 2022.Fish specimens were collected by traditional methods such as gill nets and ground cages and the re-sults were as follows:(1)During the survey,107 fish species were collected belonging to 60 genera,16 families,and 4 orders.Among them were 59 Cyprinids,accounting for 55.14%of the total fish species,and two invasive species were collected in the Congjiang section.(2)Fish community diversity in the ba-sin was high and the Margalef richness,Shannon-Wiener diversity,Simpson dominance and Pielou even-ness indices of the fish community were in the ranges of 4.850-9.757,2.710-3.730,0.908-0.960,and 0.789-0.847,respectively,with average values of 12.677,3.730,0.960 and 0.798.The number of fish spe-cies,Margalef richness(D),Shannon-Wiener diversity(H'),and Simpson dominance(F)indices of the fish community were highest in the Congjiang section(70 species,with respective index values of 3.414,9.757,and 0.945),and lowest in the Dushan section(27 species,with respective index values of 2.710,4.850,and 0.908).The Pielou evenness index(J')was highest in the Sanjiang section(0.847)and the low-est in the Sandu section(0.789).(3)The dominant species was Sinibrama macrops,with both the highest relative abundance(11.22%)and occurrence frequency(66.67%).(4)The Jaccard similarity index for the Dushan,Sandu,Rongjiang,Congjiang,and Sanjiang sections ranged from 0.171 to 0.439,with an average value of 0.311.The dissimilarity of fish community composition was at a medium level,related to the dif-ferent habitat characteristics of each river segment.The ecological types in the fish community of the five sections were primarily omnivorous and benthic fishes.Human activities such as navigation/power devel-opment and overfishing could result in the decline of fish resources and affect the diversity and distribu-tion of fish in the Duliu River basin.To protect fish diversity in Duliu River,we recommend constructing fish passages to restore river connectivity,controlling overfishing,strengthening prevention and control of alien fish species,enhancing water pollution management,and releasing economic fish and native species.关键词
