Abstract

Protosalanx chinensis is a small,high-quality commercial fish species with a life cycle of 1 year.In January 1998,it was introduced to Dalong Lake of the lower Nenjiang River in Heilongjiang Province,and Daqing City has become the core production area of P.chinensis.In this study,we ana-lyzed the growth and evaluated the current resource status of P.chinensis in Dalong Lake,based on an investigation of the population in 2021.Based on the results,we suggest a rational approach for manag-ing the P.chinensis resource in Dalong Lake.We aimed to provide basic information for managing the population and establishing a sustainable,high yield resource.From April to December 2021,P.chinensis samples were collected monthly for determination of body length and weight,and the monthly distribution frequency of body length.The relationship between body length and body weight was fitted with power function,parameters related to population growth and death were estimated using FISAT II software,and the Von Bertalanffy growth equation was used to describe population growth.Finally,the Bever-ton-Holt yield model of unit replenishment was used to estimate the relative yield per recruit,and evaluated the current status of the P.chinensis resource.A total of 940 P.chinensis specimens were collected during the investigation,with an average body length of 104 mm(range,10-178 mm)and body weight of 7.42 g(range,0.1-27.2 g).The body length and body weight were fitted to a power function,giving Wt=3×10-6Lt3.0886(n=940,R2=0.900,Lt,Wt are body length and body weight at age a)and indicating allometric growth.The body length growth equation was Lt=183.75[1-e-2.1(t+0.074)],and the body weight growth equation was Wt=29.54[1-e-2.1(t+0.074)]3.0886.The growth inflexion age of the P.chinensis population was at the age of 0.46,and the critical age was 0.83.The total mortality coefficient of the population was 4.21/a,the natural mortality coefficient was 1.12/a,the fishing instantaneous mortality coefficient was 3.09/a,and the population exploitation rate was 73.4%.Currently,the P.chinensis pop-ulation in Dalong Lake is being over-exploited.Considering individual growth potential,instantaneous biomass,and population recruitment,we recommended postponing the fishing season until late August,and the population exploitation rate should be limited to 61.4%.
