Abstract

[Objective]This study aims to explore the effect of nitrogen fertilizer combined with biochar on soil net nitrogen mineralization,to examine the relationship between soil net nitrogen mineralization rate and soil properties,and to provide guidance and reference for increasing soil fertility in Pinus massoniana plantations.[Methods]Soil samples were collected from a Pinus massoniana plantation at Xiashu Forest Farm,Zhenjiang City,Jiangsu Province,and a 60-day indoor incubation experiment was conducted.Six treatment groups were set up:no addition(CK),addition of exogenous nitrogen(IN),addition of biochar prepared at 300℃(RB300),addition of biochar prepared at 500℃(RB500),addition of both nitrogen and biochar prepared at 300℃(N-RB300),and addition of both nitrogen and biochar prepared at 500℃(N-RB500).Soil samples were collected destructively at 0.5,7,30,and 60 days of incubation,and the net nitrogen mineralization rate and physicochemical properties of the soil were determined.[Results]At the early incubation stage(0.5~7 d),the net ammonification rate of IN increased by 9.63 times compared to CK,and the net ammonification rates of RB300 and RB500 showed no significant changes.The soil net ammonification rates of N-RB300 and N-RB500 increased by 0.880 and 2.49 times,respectively,compared to IN(p<0.05).At the middle and late incubation stages(7~30 d and 30~60 d),the soil net nitrification rate of IN increased by 9.28 times compared to CK(p<0.05).The soil net nitrification rates of N-RB300 and N-RB500 decreased by 0.372 and 0.484 times,respectively,compared to IN.Two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA)showed that at the early and middle incubation stages,the interaction between biochar and nitrogen significantly affected the net ammonification rate and net nitrification rate of the soil(p<0.05).The structural equation model indicated that the soil net nitrogen mineralization rate was mainly affected by ammonium nitrogen and total dissolved nitrogen in the soil.[Conclusion]Nitrogen fertilizer combined with biochar increases the net ammonification rate at the early stage and reduces the net nitrification rate at the late stage,which helps to reduce soil nitrogen loss and thus improves the availability of nitrogen.
