Abstract

To systematically investigate the working mechanism and engineering design method of long-heel-slab cantilever retaining walls,and to identify key influencing factors of bearing capacity,both Winkler elastic foundation beam theory and standard cantilever beam method were applied in the research.A bearing capacity analytical model was established for the base slab of long-heel-slab cantilever retaining wall.The study examined the effects of base slab length,base slab thickness,and foundation coefficients on the base slab deformation and internal force distribution.Moreover,the critical criteria for long-heel-slab cantilever retaining walls were proposed.The research results showed that the standard cantilever beam method overestimated the base slab bending moment by about 27%,and the elastic foundation beam model could accurately solve the internal force and deformation of the base slab.Base slab length was directly related to its internal force and deformation,with nonlinear deformation characteristics becoming more significant when the base slab length exceeded 0.8 times the retaining wall height.The base slab cross-section stiffness and foundation coefficients were core indexes affecting base slab deformation characteristics,and the rigidity-flexibility index λl could be used for comprehensive representation.When λl ≤1.2,this indicated a conventional cantilever retaining wall with linear base slab deformation,suitable for the standard cantilever beam method.Otherwise,this indicated a long-heel-slab cantilever retaining wall with significant nonlinear deformation of the base slab,which could be solved using the elastic foundation beam theory model for long heel slab.
