Spatial Quality Disparities of Beijing's Communities Influenced by Rail Transit

Abstract
In the era of stock-based urban development,enhancing spatial quality has become one of the key objectives of urban renewal.Rail transit plays a unique role in improving spatial quality and guiding urban renewal.Taking the Sixth Ring Road area of Beijing as an example,this study quantified the spatial quality of communities across five dimensions:employment locations,parks and green spaces,education institutions,healthcare units,and scientific and cultural facilities.It compared the spatial quality of communities around rail transit stations with those not adjacent to rail transit stations and analyzed the impact of rail transit station characteristics on the spatial quality of surrounding communities.The findings reveal that rail transit exerts differentiated effects on the spatial quality of communities across areas with different resource allocation and development stages.In terms of accessibility to educational and healthcare resources,communities near rail transit stations perform significantly better than those further away from the rail transit stations.However,in peripheral areas,the spatial quality of communities near rail transit stations is slightly lower than that of communities far away from rail transit stations.Moreover,station characteristics such as station type,year of construction,and operating company play a crucial role in shaping spatial quality.Based on these findings,the study proposed several policy recommendations:strengthening the integration of urban renewal and rail transit,optimizing the interaction between rail transit and public service facilities,recognizing the influence of rail transit operating companies,promoting the integration of suburban rail and urban rail systems,and leveraging regional advantages to optimize transit routes.These recommendations aim to enhance spatial quality and support urban renewal.关键词
