Genetic Determination and Early Selection of Taxus yunnanensis Plus Tree Families with High 10-DAB Content

Abstract
The progeny variation patterns of Taxus yunnanensis with high 10-DAB content were explored to provide theoretical basis for genetic improvement.The 30 high 10-DAB content plus trees families from 7 provenances in 2 provinces were used as materials,and a multi-objective decision-making method was used for overall performance evaluation.The genetic variation of traits such as crown,branching,leaf 10-DAB content and overall performance at 3-year-old and 4-year-old saplings were analyzed,and excellent families were selected based on overall performance by using cluster analysis method.The results showed that the variation coefficient of crown length,crown width,crown volume,lateral branches number,lateral branches density within canopy,and leaf 10-DAB content at 2 age groups of T.yunnanensis families ranged from 8.12%to 27.73%and 12.01%to 36.72%,respectively,and the differences among families were signifi-cant;the family heritability at 2 ages ranged from 0.386 0 to 0.884 0 and 0.371 5 to 0.764 8,respectively.Except for a significant positive correlation between the leaf 10-DAB content and the branch density within canopy at the 3 years age,there were no significant correlation among the crown volume,branch density within canopy and leaf 10-DAB content at the 3-year-old and 4-year-old families,and showed they were rel-atively independent.The variation coefficient of the family comprehensive scores at 2 ages was 17.81%and 14.67%,respectively,and the family differences were significant,and with family heritability above 0.62.The family phenotypic variation coefficient of 4-year-old saplings increased compared to 3-year-old saplings in those series traits and comprehensive scores.those series traits and comprehensive scores family herita-bility at 3-year-old increased compared with that of 4-year-old except for crown length.There were10 and 7 excellent families selected at 3-year-old and 4-year-old,respectively,and 4 excellent families were selected in both years.The average genetic gains of 7 excellent families selected at 4 years old for crown volume,branch density within the canopy,leaf 10-DAB content,and overall performance ranged from 4.71%to 13.99%.The T.yunnanensis families had rich genetic variation and there were significant differences among families,and the family traits were genetic controlled at a medium level or above.The family pheno-typic variation,family heritability,and selected excellent families varied with age;the 4-year-old was more suitable for early selection.It was necessary and feasible to screen excellent families based on overall per-formance.关键词
