Abstract

Hindered phenolic antioxidants are commonly used as additives to improve the ther-mal stability of liquid crystal monomers in industry.But the trace ionic impurities in their components have adverse effects on the electrical properties of liquid crystal monomers.To investigate the effect of hindered phenolic antioxidants on the quality stability of liquid crys-tal monomers after high temperature is of great significance for quickly obtaining the place-ment stability results and mastering the effect of hindered phenolic antioxidants on the elec-trical properties of liquid crystal monomers.In this paper,the resistivity of liquid crystal monomers under different heating temperature and heating time was studied,and then three kinds of hindered phenolic antioxidants(BHT、2246、1330)with different structures were mixed with liquid crystal monomer(4'-(trans-4-propylcyclohexyl)-3,4,5-trifluorobipheny)to investigate the effect of antioxidant addition amount on the resistivity of liquid crystal monomer.The results show that the resistivity of liquid crystal monomers is related to the moisture content and ion density in the system.When the temperature is higher than 60 ℃,the ion density of liquid crystal monomer increases with the increase of heating temperature.And the purity and resistivity decrease with the increase of heating temperature.The addition of antioxidants can effectively improve the thermal stability of liquid crystal monomers.The resistivity of liquid crystal monomers after aging at high temperature increases first and then decreases with the increase of antioxidant content.The antioxidant effect of BHT was the best,and the optimal dosage was 15~150 ppm.2246 followed with the optimal dosage of 125~225 ppm.1330 had the worst property with the optimal addition of 255~375 ppm.
