Spatio-Temporal Variation Evaluation of Ecosystem Health in Harbin from the Perspective of Water-Energy-Food Nexus

Abstract

[Objective]To explore the dynamic impacts of the water-energy-food nexus on ecosystem health in different temporal and spatial sequences,provide a scientific basis for ecosystem protection and management in Harbin,and also offer a new perspective for maintaining the health of the regional ecosystem.[Method]Taking Harbin as an example,the paper selects the supply-demand indicators with the water-energy-food nexus as the entry point based on the assessment framework of vigor,organization,resilience and supply-demand ratio of ecosystems.The land use data of 2000,2010 and 2020 are applied to measure the matching degree and supply-demand ratio of the related services including water yield,carbon sequestration and food production,and analyze the spatio-temporal variation of ecosystem health.[Result]1)The food production service in the central area of Harbin shifts from a deficit to a surplus during the research period,while both services of carbon sequestration and water yield are still in a deficit state.The food production services in the surrounding areas are mostly in a surplus state,while the services of carbon sequestration and water yield are in a deficit state.The matching degree of supply and demand of water yield services remains basically unchanged,and the degree for carbon sequestration services shows a downward trend while the degree for food production services shows an upward trend.Moreover,the supply-demand correlations among each service are all positively correlated.2)The areas in poor and general conditions increases by 16.97%and 52.59%,respectively in area.The areas in good and very good condition decrease by 64.35%and 5.13%in area,respectively;3)The three services bring in supply-demand deficits,exacerbating the deterioration of their health conditions.[Conclusion]1)The supply-demand indexes of the three services all show a spatial pattern of"low in the central urban area and high in the areas around".There is a shortage of supply in the central urban area,which shows a significant difference in the supply-demand matching with the surrounding areas,and a synergistic relationship exists among the services;2)The ecosystem health level shows a spatial pattern of"low in the central urban area and high in the areas around",dominated with poor,general,good and very good conditions.From 2000 to 2020,the health index showed a trend of rising first and then decline;3)The three services have a direct impact on the supply-demand ratio of ecosystem services and play a correcting role in the traditional evaluation results.
