人工智能技术创新如何影响制造业碳减排?
How does artificial intelligence technology innovation impact carbon reduction in the manufacturing industry?

Abstract
The rapid development of artificial intelligence(AI)has driven the transformation and innovation of the manufacturing in-dustry while creating new opportunities for carbon reduction.This study examined whether and how AI technology innovation influ-enced carbon emissions in the manufacturing industry from an innovation perspective.Using carbon emission data from the manufactur-ing industry across 30 Chinese provinces from 2010 to 2020,the study first assessed the impact of AI technology innovation at the re-gional level and then evaluated its carbon reduction effects and underlying mechanisms at the corporate level.The findings were as fol-lows:① The AI technology innovation significantly reduced carbon emission intensity at both regional and corporate levels,a conclu-sion that remained robust after various tests.② Mechanism analysis revealed that AI technology innovation reduced carbon emission in-tensity through three channels:technological advancement effect,management efficiency optimization effect,and financing constraint reduction effect.③ The carbon reduction effects of AI technology varied across different energy types and industries in terms of carbon emissions.Specifically,AI technology innovation significantly decreased carbon emission intensity caused by coal,oil,and gas con-sumption,while also demonstrating a noticeable suppressing effect on carbon emission intensity generated by coal usage in the automo-tive industry and by electricity consumption in the chemical industry.Based on the above findings,this study suggests accelerating the adoption and diffusion of AI in the economy to improve productivity,enhance management efficiency,and alleviate financing con-straints,thus promoting the low-carbon transformation of the manufacturing industry.Furthermore,while AI technology innovation drives the upgrading of traditional industries,it is also crucial to the adjustment of energy structures in industries such as steel,contrib-uting to the goals of reaching peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality.关键词
