Impact of innovative city construction and digital economy on corporate green technology innovation

Abstract
Corporate green technology innovation is an inevitable choice to promote high-quality development.As an important mea-sure to enhance independent innovation capabilities,the construction of innovative cities has created favorable external conditions for corporate green technology innovation.In the era of the digital economy,it is imperative to explore whether these external conditions can be better transformed into internal drivers for green technology innovation within enterprises.Based on this,this study used the poli-cy of innovative city pilot projects as a quasi-natural experiment,utilized data from Chinese A-share listed companies from 2006 to 2022,and employed a double machine learning model to empirically examine the impact and mechanisms of innovative city construc-tion on corporate green technology innovation.It further analyzed the heterogeneity at the corporate level and the moderating effect of the digital economy on their relationship.The findings were as follows:① Innovative city construction significantly increased the quan-tity of corporate green technology innovation,but its positive impact on the quality of corporate green technology innovation was not sig-nificant,and this result held true after a series of robustness tests.② Heterogeneity analysis indicated that the promotion effect of inno-vative city construction on corporate green technology innovation was more pronounced for non-state-owned enterprises,heavily pollut-ing enterprises,and high-tech enterprises.③ Mechanism tests showed that innovative city construction primarily promoted corporate green technology innovation by aggregating innovation factors such as funds,talents,and technologies.④ The results of moderating ef-fects indicated that as the level of digital economy development increased,innovative city construction could simultaneously promote the quantity and quality of corporate green technology innovation.Based on the above conclusions,this study offers the following policy recommendations:the government should continue to advance the construction of innovative cities,with a strengthened focus on green technology innovation in pilot areas.During this process,it is crucial to emphasize the coordinated innovation across multiple dimen-sions,including capital,talent,and technology.The key role of enterprises in the development of innovative cities should be clearly de-fined,with tailored strategies provided according to the nature of each enterprise.Additionally,it is essential to establish a digital regu-lation and evaluation mechanism to promote the deep integration of the digital economy and green technology.关键词
