The impact of ApoE gene polymorphism on dynamic changes of inflammatory factors and neurological function recovery in patients with brain injury

Abstract
Objective To investigate the impact of ApoE gene polymorphism on dynamic changes of inflammatory factors and neurological function recovery in patients with brain injury.Methods Clinical data of 132 patients with brain injury admitted to the Department of Neurosurgery of Jilin Province FAW General Hospital from August 2020 to December 2023 were studied and analyzed.ApoE gene polymorphism was detected,and patients were divided into the mild,moderate,and severe brain injury groups based on Glasgow coma scale(GCS).The correlation between different ApoE genotypes and allele frequencies and the severity of brain injury were compared.The changes in serum levels of interleukin(IL)-10 and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-αat admission and 72 hours and 1 week after treatment were analyzed,and their correlation with neurological function recovery was evaluated.The GCS scores at admission and Glasgow outcome scale(GOS)at 3 months for patients were compared with different genotypes.Results The distribution of ApoE genotype varies significantly in patients with different degrees of brain injury,especially the proportion of ε 4 allele was significantly higher in patients with severe brain injury.At 72 hours and 1 week after treatment,the levels of IL-10 and TNF-αin patients with E4 genotype were significantly higher than those in other groups.The GOS score of ApoE E4 genotype patients was significantly lower than that of E3 genotype patients,indicating poor neurological function recovery,while E3 genotype patients had a better prognosis.Conclusion ApoE gene polymorphism is closely related to the neurological function recovery after brain injury,and the ε 4 allele significantly increases the severity and poor prognosis of brain injury.The level of inflammatory factors is closely related to the neurological function recovery,suggesting that inflammatory response may be a key mechanism by which ApoE gene affects the prognosis of brain injury.关键词
