Efficacy of Paliperidone Palmitate Combined with Aripiprazole in Patients with Schizophrenia and Its Effects on Social Functioning and Neurotrophic Factor Levels

Abstract
Objective:To explore the efficacy of paliperidone palmitate combined with aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia and its impact on social functioning and neurotrophic factor levels.Methods:A total of 121 patients diagnosed with schizophrenia who were admitted to a hospital from January 2022 to May 2024 were selected.The Participants were randomly assigned to two groups using a random number table.The control group included 61 patients in the control group,of whom 55 completed the study and received treatment with paliperidone sustained-release tablets.The study group included 60 patients,of whom 55 completed the study,and received treatment with paliperidone sustained-release tablets in combination with aripiprazole for 60 days.The positive and negative symptom scale(PANSS)scores,personal and social performance(PSP)scale,repeatable battery for the assessment of neuropsychological status(RBANS)scale,and neurotrophic factor levels were assessed before and after 8 weeks of treatment.Additionally,the occurrence of adverse reactions between the groups was analyzed.Results:After treatment,the PANSS scores of both groups decreased(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the groups(P>0.05).The scores of each dimension of PSP(socially useful activity score,personal and social relationship score,self-care score,disturbance and aggressive behavior score)all decreased(P<0.05),and the observation group had lower scores than the control group(P<0.05).The total PSP score increased(P<0.05),and the observation group had a higher total score than the control group(P<0.05).The scores of each dimension of RBANS in the observation group were higher than those before treatment(P<0.05)and higher than those in the control group(P<0.05).The levels of glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor(GDNF),brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF),nerve growth factor(NGF),and neurotrophin-3(NT-3)in both groups increased(P<0.05),and the observation group had higher levels than the control group(P<0.05).The total clinical effective rate of the observation group(90.91%)was higher than that of the control group(65.45%,P<0.05).There was no significant difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion:Paliperidone sustained-release tablets combined with aripiprazole in the treatment of schizophrenia significantly enhanced the social functioning and cognitive level,improved neurotrophic factor levels,and demonstrated a favorable safety profile.关键词
