Effects of Fully Enclosed Classification Screening on the Characteristics of Bamboo Pulp Fibers and Paper Properties

Abstract

This study focused on unbleached bamboo pulp,using a Bauer Mc Nett fiber classifier to perform fully enclosed classification screening of bamboo pulp to obtain long fibers(R16)and short fibers(P16).Using PFI refining for beating,the lignin content,fiber quali-ty,and pulping characteristics of long and short fibers were analyzed to explore the effects of long and short fibers beating and mixing pro-cesses on the properties of bamboo pulp paper.The results showed that the lignin content of P16 was higher than that of R16.During the beating process,the changes of fiber morphology of P16 were primarily characterized by the rupture of primary and secondary walls,whereas R16 was mainly dominated by fuzzing on the surface.The average fiber length of R16 and P16 decreased,while the content of fine fibers,water retention value,and crystallinity all increased.The optimal beating degrees for R16 and P16 were 32 and 36 °SR,respectively.The resulting paper had a bursting index of 5.65 kPa·m²/g,a tensile index of 76.0 N·m/g,and a tearing index of 17.7 mN·m²/g,all of which were better than unclassified bamboo pulp paper.
