A study of airborne fungal spores in urban area of Chengdu,Sichuan province

Abstract
Objective To investigate the classification,amount and seasonal distribution of airborne fungi in urban area of Chengdu,Sichuan Province,and to further explore the correlation between airborne fungal dispersal and meteorological factors and air pollution indicators.Methods A Burkard 7-day spore sampler was used to monitor airborne fungi throughout the year(2022-04-01~2023-03-31).The location of the sampler was on the roof of fifth floor of Medical Technology Building in the main hospital area of West China Hospital of Sichuan University.The airborne fungi monitoring data were obtained by preparation,stai-ning,microscopic examination and counting.Simultaneous meteorological and air pollution indicators data in urban area of Chengdu were obtained to investigate the correlation between them.Results Fungal spores were dispersed throughout the year in urban area of Chengdu,with two peaks in May and September and a higher peak in September.During the whole monitoring period,a total of 65 species of airborne fungal spores were collected,with a total of 1 860 477 spores/m3,of which Cladosporium sp was the dominant species,with a dispersal amount occupying 59.13%of the total amount of the year.The remaining species that accounted for more than 1%of the total annual dispersal included Uredinales(15.59%),Leptosphaeria sp(5.46%),Ustilaginales(5.12%),Canoderma sp(2.99%),and Nigrospora sp(1.35%).In addition Alternaria sp,which is of clinical importance,accounted for 0.71%of the total amount.The correlation between the to-tal fungal spore concentration and the average temperature(P<0.0001),average precipitation(P=0.0048),and average barometric pressure(P<0.0001)during the sampling period was statistically sig-nificant,and the total fungal spore concentration was positively correlated with sampling period average SO2(P=0.0002),O3(P<0.0001)concentration,and negatively correlated with sampling period aver-age PM2.5(P<0.0001),PM10(P<0.0001),and NO2(P=0.0008)concentration.Conclusion Air-borne fungi were dispersed throughout the year in urban area of Chengdu,Sichuan Province,with abundant species and large amount and there were two peaks of dispersal in May and September,with Cladosporium sp being the dominant airborne fungal spore.Airborne fungal spore dispersal was significantly affected by meteor-ological and air pollution indicators.关键词
