Analysis of related factors of anxiety and depression in children with allergic rhinitis
摘要
Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between various symptoms of allergic rhinitis(AR)in children, including nasal congestion, itching, runny nose, sneezing, olfactory dysfunction, and anxiety and depression disorders.Method This study conducted a cross-sectional analysis from October 2023 to April 2024 at the Ear,Nose,Throat,Head and Neck Surgery Outpatient Department of the Children's Hospital Af-filiated with the Capital Institute of Pediatrics.A total of 118 children with allergic rhinitis were included in the case group, while 99 healthy children were included in the control group from the Nutrition and Health Depart-ment Outpatient Department. The two groups of children were assessed using the"U-sniff"olfactory recognition test, the Screen for Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders(SCARED),and the Depression Self-rating Scale for Children(DSRSC).Additionally,a total nasal symptom score(TNSS)questionnaire was adminis-tered to children seeking treatment for AR.Results Compared to healthy children, those with AR exhibited lower olfactory scores, higher SCARED and DSRSC scores, and a significant increase in rates of anxiety and depression.Notably, the scores for generalized anxiety, separation anxiety, and social anxiety subscales on the anxiety scale were higher in the case group than in the control group.Anxiety disorders in children with AR were associated with being overweight, nasal congestion, and runny nose, while depression disorders were specific-ally linked to runny nose. The increase in nasal congestion scores among children with AR was moderately corre-lated with the rise in SCARED scores, and the decrease in olfactory scores was mildly correlated with the in-crease in DSRSC scores. Conclusion Children with AR are more susceptible to anxiety and depression,as well as an increased likelihood of developing olfactory dysfunction.Nasal congestion and runny nose are identified as risk factors for anxiety in children with AR,while runny nose is a risk factor for depression. The decrease in ol-factory scores is mildly correlated with the increase in depression scale scores in these children.Therefore,treat-ment should focus on addressing related symptoms to enhance the overall treatment experience for children.关键词
