Abstract

Livestock semen cryopreservation technology is an important means of improving reproductive efficiency and reducing costs in modern animal husbandry.Despite the remarkable progress of this technology in the breeding industry,it still faces certain challenges in its application.These challenges mainly stem from the unsatisfactory results of semen cryopreservation.The paper re-viewed the effects of semen cryopreservation on the structure and function of spermatozoa in domestic animals,mainly cattle,pigs,sheep and horses,and explored the alterations in the structure and function of sperm membranes,sperm molecular damages,re-duced sperm fertilization ability,and alterations in the function of embryo development.Meanwhile,this paper also systematically describes the progress of research and application of livestock semen cryopreservation technology,including the optimization of cryoprotective media,the addition of seminal plasma supplements and other supplemental substances,the progress of the applica-tion of semen processing technology,as well as the prospects for the development of sperm cryopreservation technology.Special at-tention is paid to the potential application of emerging technologies such as vitrification freezing technology,nanotechnology and microencapsulation.Finally,methods to enhance the effectiveness of technology application are discussed and suggestions for future research directions are made.
