Applications of Gene Editing Technology in Livestock and Poultry Breeding

Abstract
With the increasing demands for animal health,production efficiency,and product quality in livestock farming,traditional breeding methods face significant challenges,including long cycles,slow progress,and an inability to precisely regulate traits.The rapid development of gene-editing technologies,particularly the application of the CRISPR/Cas system,offers a promising opportu-nity to overcome these bottlenecks.Gene-editing technologies have not only advanced disease-resistant breeding in economically important animals such as pigs,cattle,sheep,and poultry,but have also demonstrated significant efficacy in combating major ani-mal diseases like african swine fever,porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome,and avian influenza.Furthermore,they enable the precise regulation of genes related to growth,reproduction,and feed conversion efficiency,thereby improving animal performance,meat quality,and fat content.However,technical safety,ethical concerns,and regulatory challenges necessitate further investigation and standardization to promote the sustainable development of gene-editing technologies in animal breeding,providing crucial insights for exploring innovative applications of gene-editing technologies in this field.关键词
