Aerodynamic Noise Characteristics of an Improved Logarithmic Spiral Line Centrifugal Fan

Abstract
To meet the requirements of high-performance and low noise of centrifugal fans,a centrifugal fan with high specific speed was taken as a research object.Three new logarithmic spirals of its volute have been designed by improving the parameters of logarithmic spiral equation of the original volute′s outline.Three-dimensional models of the original fan and the new fan were established,and the unsteady flow field of both fans was analyzed through fluid-structure coupling us-ing CFD and finite element methods.The simulation results show that the new volutes can improve the total pressure perfor-mance and reduce the energy consumption due to inner vortex flow in comparison with the original volute.In addition,the sound structure coupling characteristics of the fan were studied,and the internal relationship between the volute profile and the aerodynamic noise source was explored.It is shown that the volute modification has a significant impact on the intensity and distribution of the main aerodynamic noise sources.The dipole sound source on the volute is mainly distributed on the tongue and rear end face of the volute,which can serve as an important location for future modifications of the volute.关键词
