Exploration of the"Harmonization"Philosophy in Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases

Abstract
The philosophy of"harmonization"is one of the core concepts in traditional Chinese culture and forms the theoretical foundation of Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM).Zhang Zhongjing,a renowned physician of the Eastern Han Dynasty,inherited and developed the"harmonization"philosophy in his seminal work Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases(Shanghan Zhabing Lun),applying it for the first time in clinical practice.The concept of"harmonization"runs through the entire text of the book and is manifested in areas such as yin-yang,exterior-interior,ying-wei(nutritive and defensive qi),the three burners(Sanjiao),body fluids,and the stomach.The philosophy suggests that when harmony exists,there is no disease,but when harmony is disrupted,disease arises.The pathogenesis determines the treatment method,and the goal is to restore harmony by addressing disharmony.Harmony is the foundation of life,and this is the central meaning of the"harmonization"philosophy in the book.This paper organizes and summarizes the related passages in Treatise on Cold Damage and Miscellaneous Diseases concerning"harmonization,"and explores Zhang Zhongjing's practical application of the"harmonization"philosophy,aiming to provide a better understanding of TCM classics and help establish clinical thinking in TCM.关键词
