Abstract

The addition of a chelator enhances crack repair and pore closure in cement mortar.This study investigates the effects of incorporating a chelator and mineral admixtures(slag,fly ash)on the frost resistance and self-healing capacity of mortar by evaluating its mass loss,mechanical properties,impermeability,pore size distribution,and microstructural changes during freeze-thaw(F-T)cycles.The results indicate that mortar containing a chelator and slag exhibits the highest resistance to frost damage and the strongest self-healing capability after F-T cycles.After undergoing 100 F-T cycles,compared to ordinary mortar,the mass loss rate decreased by 43.6%,the reduction in compressive strength was 46.2%,the chloride migration coefficient dropped by 70.8%,and the proportion of harmful pores(>0.1 μm)decreased by 34.5%.Following a 28-day curing period after F-T cycles,the compressive strength recovery rate of the mortar with chelator and slag reached 21.1%,the chloride migration coefficient reduction was 12.8%,and the proportion of harmful pores was further reduced by 25.1%.Microstructural analysis revealed a significant amount of C-S-H gel filled pores and microcracks within the mortar,contributing to the enhanced frost resistance.
