Abstract

In the event of an asymmetric loading of a shield tunnel or a modification to the structural system(such as a tunnel with cross passages opening),the impact of shear between rings on the structural response of the shield tunnel increases.Moreover,the effect of shear between rings exerts a considerable influence on the ultimate load-bearing capacity of the structure.However,the existing models have simplified the circumferential joints,which makes it challenging to conduct a comprehensive and detailed analysis of the shear distribution between rings during this process.To this end,an elaborate shell contact model was developed based on the contact principle and compared with the results of the full-scale tests on segmental lining with mechanically cut cross-passage openings.This can help ascertain the mechanism of shear effects between rings in this process.The results demonstrate that the"soft contact"methodology of the shell-contact model is an effective means of simulating joint rotation while concurrently coupling pressure and shear at joint locations.This aligns with the actual mechanical properties of the segment joints.In the case of shield tunnel with mechanical cross passages opening,the elaborate model results considering friction loss demonstrate a superior correlation with the results of full-scale experiments.Radial shear force is the predominant contributors to shear force between rings.Following the structural system changing(after opening),the shear force at the segment joints is no longer self-balancing.There have been sudden fluctuations in shear force between rings at the longitudinal joints.The position of the maximum radial shear between rings provides insight into the direction of internal force transmission between rings:from the opening position to the top,and it gradually disappears.In the actual project,it is essential to consider the direction of the maximum shear force between rings to ensure effective internal force transmission.The study can provide insights into the shear effects between rings in shield tunnels with cross passages openings constructed by the mechanized method,offering guidance for shield tunnel projects with circumferential joints dislocations.
