Experimental investigation of solvent effect on ammonium carbamate-based high-temperature chemical heat pump

Abstract
The high-temperature chemical heat pump based on the physical-chemical thermal effects accompa-nying the reversible reaction of ammonium carbamate(AC)are promising for the environmentally friendly,ef-ficient thermal management and utilization of low-grade heat.The addition of solvents helps to achieve cycle continuous operation and heat transfer enhancement,but also changes the reaction characteristics of AC.Therefore,a new equilibrium calculation model was developed by considering both the chemical and solubility equilibrium,which was verified experimentally.According to the reaction equilibrium theory for AC solu-tions,an optimized fitting form for the equilibrium pressure of AC solutions was obtained.A thermodynamic model of the proposed chemical heat pump was established to analyze the impacts of solvents on the heat pump.The results show that the solubility of NH3 in solvent ethylene glycol affects the chemical equilibrium of AC,leading to a decrease of NH3 in the decomposition gas.The concentration term in the equilibrium pres-sure relationship of AC solutions should exist in the form of 2/3ln(x/(1+x)),which can maintain preferably fit-ting goodness while significantly reducing the number of fitting coefficients.The effects of solvents on the co-efficient of performance of the AC-based heat pump is mainly due to the heat and cold offset losses,while the impacts of reaction equilibrium changes are relatively small and can be neglected.关键词
