Abstract

The widespread adoption of sustainable aviation fuel(SAF)constitutes the most critical pathway for achieving the global aviation industry's 2050 net-zero emissions target.Recently,the EU,the United States,and international entities including the International Civil Aviation Organization(ICAO)and International Air Transport Association(IATA)have actively developed policies to advance SAF utilization,combining mandatory mandates with incentive mechanisms.Nevertheless,these policies face such challenges as SAF cost competitiveness,investment appeal,and compliance.China is currently advancing SAF pilot initiatives,with projected demand expected to reach 91.19 million tons by 2050.China's SAF production is growing rapidly through the HEFA pathway using waste cooking oil as primary feedstock but the inherent supply limitations of this raw material constrain long-term production scalability,necessitating accelerated development of alternative technological routes to address capacity shortages.The domestic SAF market faces consumption barriers due to high costs and the absence of binding carbon reduction requirements in aviation.To foster industry growth,it proposes such recommendations as reducing comprehensive production costs to enable commercial viability,enhancing mandatory carbon reduction obligations alongside voluntary mitigation mechanisms,and implementing multi-dimensional measures to stimulate SAF demand.
