Complementarity of Agricultural Product Trade between China and Countries Along the"21st Century Maritime Silk Road"and Its Influencing Factors

Abstract
The high-level opening of agriculture is a key topic in China's construction of the"21st Cen-tury Maritime Silk Road",while also presenting new opportunities for the development of agricultural prod-uct trade.Based on data from 2003 to 2021,this study employs the trade complementarity index and grav-ity model to analyze the characteristics of agricultural product trade between China and countries along the Maritime Silk Road,as well as the complementarity of agricultural product trade between both parties.Furthermore,it explores the influencing factors behind export complementarity in agricultural products.The research findings indicate that from 2003 to 2021,countries along the Maritime Silk Road have in-creasingly prominent positions in China's agricultural product trade;however,a growing trade deficit has been observed.The import and export trades primarily concentrate on ASEAN countries.Additionally,China's export focus towards these countries has progressively shifted towards those located along the east-ern segment of maritime routes,while its import focus has gradually moved toward nations situated along the central segment.Among these segments,China exhibits the strongest export complementarity with eastern route countries,followed by those along central and western routes.The impact of various varia-bles on export complementarity in agricultural products demonstrates regional and industrial heterogeneity.Factors such as narrowing economic development disparities between both parties,currency appreciation,reduced tariff rates,and lower distance costs contribute positively to enhancing China's export comple-mentarity with countries along the"21st Century Maritime Silk Road".Establishing free trade zones sig-nificantly boosts bilateral export complementarity.关键词
