Effects of Different Treatments on Seed Germination in Passiflora edulis

Abstract
Intended to break the dormancy of golden passion fruit seeds and shorten the breeding period.The pulp of Passiflora edulis contains compounds such as flavonoids and triterpenoids,as well as abundant essential vitamins,making it highly valuable for medicinal and health purposes.However,owing to the long dormancy period and wide germination span of Passiflora edulis seeds,the germination rate has been consistently suboptimal.To investigate the germination characteristics of Passiflora edulis seeds and explore the reasons for and methods of breaking dormancy,we examined the effects of different maturity levels on seed germination of Passiflora edulis seeds,as well as the impacts of high-temperature treatment,sandpaper scarification,and immersion in various disinfectants.The germination rate,germination potential,germination index,and vigor index were used as evaluation indicators.The results indicated that seeds at maturity level V presented significantly higher germination rates,germination potentials,germination indices,and vigor indices than did seeds at other maturity levels.Sandpaper scarification reduced the water absorption rate of the seeds.High-temperature treatment caused the seeds at ma-turity level V to become inactive.Treatment with different concentrations of common disinfectants revealed that a low-concentration sodium phosphate solution promoted seed germination of Passiflora edulis seeds.This study provide a theoretical basis for Passiflora edulis breeding,cultivation,and promotion.关键词
