Love Beyond Temporal-Spatial Boundaries:The Poetics of Nostalgia in Edgar Allan Poe's Elegiac Verse

Abstract
Edgar Allan Poe,a figure who has exerted a profound influence on the history of American literature,has consistently attracted a wide range of interpretative approaches.However,there remains a paucity of research on the subject of nostalgia in Poe's poetry.This paper,therefore,explores the manifestation of nostalgia in Edgar Allan Poe's poetry through the lens of cognitive schema theory in nostalgia studies.It posits that the sense of alienation stemming from the rapid societal transformations inherent in modernity,compounded by the absence of stable and reliable emotional attachments,played a pivotal role in shaping Poe's nostalgic consciousness.Poe's poetry is characterized by the construction of idealized temporal-spatial frameworks,detached romanticism,and the nostalgic self,which serve as compensatory mechanisms for the perceived lack of ontological security and social belonging.While these nostalgic configurations temporarily mitigate Poe's existential identity crisis,they ultimately prove unsustainable due to his profoundly disadvantaged socioeconomic position,limited agency in confronting real-world adversities,and the chimerical nature of idealized spaces and emotional.关键词
