摘要

Abstract

The determination of wetted surface area of vessel is the first step to design the overpressure venting of liquid(liquified gas is included)vessels under external fire environment according to the API 521-2020 standard.It has been found by investigations and research that the calculations of the wetted surface area are prone to errors,and the systematical description of the calculations has not been given in existing literatures.In this paper,by using the combination methods of investigation analysis and induction and summary,the different risk conditions and geometric models for liquid vessels under external fire environments have been built.Formulas for calculating the effective liquid height of liquid vessels in spherical tanks,horizontal containers(hemispherical heads,flat heads,elliptical heads),support type vertical containers(hemispherical heads,flat heads,elliptical heads),skirt type vertical containers,tower equipment were analyzed.The calculations of the wetted surface area of different liquid vessels under external fire environments are given bases on the effective liquid height.The research can provide reference for the overpressure venting design for liquid vessels with external fire environments.
