Abstract

Objective To explore the encoding mechanism of biological motion and spatial location in working memory and to identify event-related potential(ERP)components specific to the processing of biological motion.Methods The study recruited 29 college students from a military medical university as subjects,using a change detection paradigm,with biological motion as the target feature and spatial location as the irrelevant feature,to investigate whether changes in spatial location affect the detection of biological motion.The materials for biological motion memory were three-dimensional animations.Subsequently,ERP components during the detection were recorded and analyzed,and standardized low-resolution brain electromagnetic tomography was used for source localization analysis.Results Behavioral analysis revealed that changes in spatial location did not significantly affect the accuracy(P=0.541)and reaction time(P=0.275)of biological motion detection.ERP analysis found that changes in biological motion elicited a significantly more positive late positive potential(LPP,P=0.022),while there was no difference in the mean amplitudes of LPP between location changes and the standard condition.Source localization analysis indicated that the postcentral and precentral gyri were the source locations of the LPP in detecting changes in biological motion.Conclusion This study finds that biological motion and spatial location undergo independent encoding in working memory,and the efficacy of LPP in the encoding of biological motion.
