Effects of Different Feed Conversion Ratios on Growth Performance,Apparent Digestibility of Nutrients,Slaughter Performance,and Meat Quality in Fattening Male Lambs

Abstract
This experiment aimed to investigate the effects of varying feed conversion ratio(FCR)on the growth perfor-mance,apparent digestibility of nutrients,slaughter performance and meat quality of fattening male lambs,and provide reference for the promotion of new breeds of Tianhua mutton sheep.20 Male lambs of the first generation from the cross between Tianhua mutton sheep and Hu sheep at 3 months of age were used as experimental animals.The pre-feeding period was 7 days and the formal experiment lasted for 60 days.The apparent digestibility of nutrients at pre measurement(20 days),mid measurement(21-40 days),and post measurement(41-60 days)of the fattening period,and the FCR throughout the fattening period were calculated.Lambs with the highest(group A,n=6)and lowest(group B,n=6)FCR values were selected to evaluate growth performance,slaughter traits,and meat quality.The results showed that no significant differences were observed in apparent digestibility of dry matter,crude protein,neutral deter-gent fiber and phosphorus across fattening phases(P>0.05).The organic matter digestibility was extremely signifi-cantly higher in early and middle fattening periods than in late fattening period(P<0.01),and the crude fat digestibility was extremely significantly higher in the middle and late fattening periods than in early fattening period(P<0.01).Acid detergent fiber and calcium digestibility were significantly higher in the late fattening period than in early and middle fattening periods(P<0.05).The average FCR of group A was 7.69 and that of group B was 6.32.The daily weight gain from 40 to 60 days,final weight,total weight gain,average daily weight gain,carcass weight,slaughter rate and the weight of liver and spleen of group A were significantly lower than those of group B(P<0.05,or P<0.01).The pH45 min and muscle collagen content of group A were significantly higher than those of group B(P<0.05,or P<0.01).No sig-nificant differences were observed in other meat quality traits or textural properties.In summary,group B had superior feed efficiency,better slaughter performance and less fat deposition,while the organ index and meat quality remained unaffected.关键词
