Path Analysis of Body Weight and Body Measurements and Establishment of Regression Model in Prolific Suffolk Ewes

Abstract
To study the correlation between body weight and body measurements in prolific Suffolk ewes,and select body measurement indicators related to weight of ewes,300 prolific Suffolk ewes were used as subjects.The yearling weight(Y),height(X1),body length(X2),chest girth(X3),chest depth(X4),chest width(X5)and shank circumference(X6)were measured.The path analysis and correlation analysis of weight and body measurements was conducted,and re-gression models were established to analyze the correlation between weight and body measurement indicators.The re-sults showed that the height,body length,chest circumference,chest depth,chest width,and shank circumference of the prolific Suffolk yearling ewes were highly significantly positively correlated with body weight(P<0.01),with the stron-gest correlation between body weight and chest circumference.Chest circumference had the greatest direct effect on weight,while chest width had the greatest indirect effect on weight by path analysis.The regression equation of body weight and body measurement indicators was Y=0.113X1+0.149X2+0.462X3+0.086X4+0.073X5-0.823X6-6.894.The re-gression coefficient of the chest circumference indicator on weight was extremely significant correlation(P<0.01).In summary,chest circumference could be used as indirect selection indicator in the breeding of prolific Suffolk ewe to im-prove body weight and increase economic benefit.关键词
