A Brief Analysis of the Correlation and Treatment Strategies for Heart-eye Comor-bidity Based on the Theory of"The Eyes as the Envoys of the Heart"

Abstract
As part of the terminal circulatory system,retinal vessels exhibit morphological and structural changes similar to those in cardiovascular diseases,often presenting as comorbid conditions in clinical practice.Based on the Traditional Chinese Medicine theory of"the eyes as the envoys of the heart",this paper explores the physiological and pathological connections between heart and eyes.Research indicates that heart and eyes are interconnected through meridians and both functionally rely on blood nourishment and the regulation of Shenming,forming the physiological basis for their comorbidity.From a pathological perspective,the essence of cardiovascular and retinal vascular diseases lies in collateral vessel damage,characterized by a deficiency in origin and excess in manifestation:On one hand,Qi and blood deficiency lead to malnourishment of the collaterals,while on the other,phlegm and blood stasis obstruct the collateral vessels.To address this pathological feature,this paper proposes the principle of"supporting healthy Qi while eliminating pathogens,treating both the root and the symptoms":Nourishing Qi and blood to strengthen the collaterals,combined with resolving phlegm and dispelling stasis to unblock the collaterals,supplemented with insect and vine-based medicines when necessary to enhance collateral-dredging effects.This study deepens the understanding of the"heart-eye correlation"theory and provides new insights and methods for the clinical treatment of cardiovascular-retinal comorbidity.关键词
