Abstract

As an essential driver for high-quality development of the Chinese economy,digital transformation provides new opportuni-ties for low-carbon innovation implementation.However,few studies have offered a systematic explanatory framework and theoretical mechanisms regarding the impact of digital transformation on regional low-carbon innovation.Based on resource orchestration theory and using provincial panel data from 2011 to 2021,this study employed basic regression models and moderating effect models to empiri-cally investigate the impact mechanisms of digital transformation on regional low-carbon innovation and the moderating roles of local government competition and intellectual property protection.Furthermore,the spatial spillover effects of digital transformation on re-gional low-carbon innovation were examined.The findings indicated that:① Digital transformation played a significant role in promot-ing regional low-carbon innovation.② Local government competition promoted the impact of digital transformation on regional low-car-bon innovation,but the effect of intellectual property protection remained insignificant.③ The promoting effect of digital transformation was more pronounced in the economically developed eastern region.However,the moderating effects of local government competition and intellectual property protection were not significant in the eastern region,whereas they played a significant positive moderating ef-fect in the central and western regions.Furthermore,the promoting effect of digital transformation on low-carbon innovation was stron-ger in more open regions,but intellectual property protection weakened the innovation-promoting effect of digital transformation.④ The regional low-carbon innovation effect of digital transformation exhibited a positive spatial spillover effect.This study recommends fur-ther deepening digital transformation,promoting the transition of low-carbon innovation models,actively encouraging healthy competi-tion among local governments,continuously improving the performance appraisal systems for local officials,strengthening intellectual property protection mechanisms,and providing policy and legal guarantees for innovation achievements.Additionally,it advocates for the targeted implementation of policies by formulating differentiated digital transformation strategies tailored to the resource endow-ments of each region,establishing talent cultivation and resource-sharing platforms involving multiple stakeholders,and endeavoring to establish a collaborative innovation development pattern.It is expected that the findings of this study will enrich the research domain and empirical evidence related to digital transformation and low-carbon innovation,providing valuable references for decision-making in digitally empowered regional innovation development.
