Effects of agricultural insurance on poverty prevention and income increase:based on the perspective of agricultural modernization

Abstract
It is imperative to explore whether agricultural insurance has the effect of poverty prevention and income increase in promot-ing agricultural modernization in the new stage of consolidating poverty alleviation achievements and promoting rural revitalization.Therefore,based on 583 household survey data,this study used the instrumental variable method and the threshold model to conduct a theoretical analysis and empirical investigation on the poverty prevention and income increase effects of agricultural insurance protec-tion level and their underlying mechanisms from the perspective of promoting agricultural modernization development.The results showed that:① From the perspective of the impact effects,the level of agricultural insurance protection could significantly improve farmers'agricultural operating income and total household income,demonstrating its poverty prevention and income increase effects.However,these effects exhibited a threshold effect;only when the threshold was surpassed could the improvement in the protection lev-el significantly promote farmers'income increase and aid in poverty prevention.② From the perspective of the mechanism of action,within the effective range,improvements in the protection level primarily facilitated agricultural modernization by expanding the scale of land investment,strengthening the application of agricultural machinery,enhancing the adoption of agricultural technology,and opti-mizing the planting structure,thereby contributing to the achievement of poverty prevention and income increase.③ From the perspec-tive of heterogeneity among farmers,within the effective range,the protection level had poverty prevention and income increase effects on both small farmers and new agricultural operators,though its effects on small farmers were stronger.To this end,it is necessary to fur-ther improve the protection level,improve the collaborative interaction mechanism between agricultural insurance and agricultural cred-it financing,enhance the directionality of agricultural insurance policies to stimulate the endogenous development motivation of farm-ers,and promote agricultural insurance to achieve poverty prevention and income increase.关键词
