Latent profile analysis of professional identity among traditional Chinese medicine major students

Abstract
Objective To explore the latent categories of professional identity among traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)students and analyze the influencing factors of different latent profiles,providing a basis for developing targeted educational programs in TCM universities.Methods From April to May 2024,a study was conducted among first-to fifth-year TCM students at Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.An online questionnaire survey was administered using a general information questionnaire,the Professional Identity Scale,and the Academic Self-Efficacy Scale.A latent profile analysis(LPA)was performed using four dimensions of the Professional Identity Scale as manifest variables.Ordered multinomial Logistic regression analysis was applied to identify the influencing factors associated with different latent profiles of professional identity among TCM students.Results A total of 578 TCM students were classified into three latent categories of professional identity:low professional identity(14.5%),moderate professional identity(53.6%),and high professional identity(31.9%).Logistic regression analysis revealed that grade level,voluntary choice of major,and academic self-efficacy were significant influencing factors of professional identity among TCM students(P<0.05).Conclusion TCM students'professional identity can be categorized into three latent profiles,with grade level,voluntary major selection,and academic self-efficacy serving as predictors of classification.Educators should adopt flexible and targeted educational strategies based on the characteristics and influencing factors of different professional identity profiles.This approach can enhance students'professional identity,promote a more specialized and scientific professional education in TCM universities,and further support students'career development.关键词
