摘要
Abstract
This paper aims to explore the translation of traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)formula names, particularly from the perspective of the discipline of knowledge translation, viewing the process as a transformation from localized knowledge into global knowledge. With the growing international interest in TCM culture, the translation of formula names has become a key factor in promoting the global dissemination of TCM.The article proposes that a foreignization strategy should be adopted as much as possible in translating the names of TCM formulas,in order to retain the cultural characteristics of China. At the same time, for the localized knowledge embedded in formula names,a combination of transliteration and annotation is suggested. The article further analyzes the unique appeal of TCM formula names as localized knowledge and introduces the concept of paratexts and their application in translation.Paratexts—including annotations, appendices, and digital paratexts—provide rich background information for readers and help them understand the cultural connotations behind the formulas. In the translation process, the use of annotations, appendices, and digital paratexts can help bridge linguistic and cultural gaps, enhancing the readability and practical value of the text. Finally,by taking representative formula names from the Dictionary of Traditional Chinese Medicine Prescriptions as examples, the article discusses in detail the forms and methods of using paratexts in translation, with the goal of promoting the translation and dissemination of TCM formula classics, allowing readers to gain knowledge of the formulas while also appreciating the profound richness of TCM culture.关键词
