Abstract
Objective To investigate the impact of a Teach-back model implemented via the WeChat platform on the self-management skills of orthodontic patients.Methods A total of 82 patients who underwent orthodontic treatment at the Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Nanjing Medical University from August 2021 to August 2022 were enrolled as the subjects of the study and divided into two groups using a random number table method,with 41 patients who received routine care in the control group,and 41 patients who received the Teach-back model intervention via WeChat platform in the observation group.The periodontal indicators[plaque index(PLI)and gingival index(GI)],self-management skills,negative emotions[Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale(HAMA)and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale(HAMD)]and the incidence of complications were compared between the two groups.Results After 1 and 3 months of the intervention,the PLI score,GI index,HAMD score,and HAMA score of the observation group were lower than those of the control group.The scores for each dimension of the oral health self-management status survey questionnaire were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05),and both groups were better than pre-intervention levels(P<0.05).During the entire intervention period,the total incidence of complications in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion The intervention with the Teach-back model implemented via WeChat platform can improve periodontal indicators and negative emotions of orthodontic patients,enhance their self-management skills,and reduce the occurrence of complications.关键词
