Changes of gray matter structure in specific brain regions and its relationship with emotional cognition in chronic insomnia patients

Abstract
Objective To investigate the changes of gray matter structure in specific brain regions of patients with chronic insomnia and their relationship with emotional cognition.Methods A total of 25 patients with chronic insomnia(CID)and 19 individuals with good sleep quality(GSC)were recruited for a series of neuropsychological tests and structural magnetic resonance imaging scans.Voxel-based morphometry and surface-based morphometry analysis methods were used to study the changes of gray matter structure in specific brain regions of CID patients and their correlations with emotional cognition.Results Compared to the GSC group,the CID group showed a decrease in gray matter volume in the right supplementary motor area(t=-3.769 2,P＜0.05)and a decrease in thickness of the left cingulate cortex(t=-2.868 9,P＜0.05).The gray matter volume in the right supplementary motor area of the CID group was negatively correlated with SDS(r=-0.531,P=0.013),the thickness of the left cingulate cortex was negatively correlated with HAS(r=-0.489,P=0.024).Conclusion CID patients exhibit changes of gray matter structure in specific brain regions,and are correlated with depression and excessive arousal.关键词
