Abstract

Objective To investigate the value of cerebrospinal fluid kinetic indexes measured at the midbrain aqueduct by phase-contrast cine magnetic resonance image(PC-MRI)in the diagnosis of non-obstructive hydrocephalus.Methods A total of 84 subjects were enrolled in this study and were divided into three groups:30 cases in the normal control group,32 cases in the communicating hydrocephalus group and 22 cases in the idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus group.All the subjects underwent PC-MRI scanning to measure cerebrospinal fluid flow rate and flow indexes at the midbrain aqueduct,and the differences of each parameter among the three groups were analyzed.The relationship between cerebrospinal fluid flow rate indexes and lumbar puncture pressure in the communicating hydrocephalus group was visualized and analyzed by scatter plot.Results There were significant differences in systolic downward peak velocity,diastolic upward peak velocity,net flow rate,upward flow rate,downward flow rate,and reflux fraction among the three groups(P<0.05).There were correlations among lumbar puncture pressure and systolic downward peak velocity,diastolic upward peak velocity in the patients of communicating hydrocephalus group and idiopathic normal pressure hydrocephalus group(r>0.6).Conclusion Cerebrospinal fluid kinetic indexes measured by PC-MRI technology can be used for clinical diagnosis and judgment of intracranial pressure in the patients with non-obstructive hydrocephalus,and as a non-invasive assessment method,it has important clinical application value.
