Effect of Chitin Treatment on Postharvest Resistance to Gray Mold and Storage Quality of Sweet Cherry Fruit

Abstract
In order to study the effect of chitin treatment on the resistance to gray mold(Botrytis cinerea)and the storage quality of sweet cherry.The effects of different concentrations of chitin on colony diameter,spore germination of B.cinerea and its effect on controlling gray mold in sweet cherry were studied;meanwhile,the changes of defense-related enzyme activities of sweet cherry under the chitin treatments were investigated.The results showed that,compared with the control,chitin concentration above 0.1%could significantly inhibit mycelial growth and spore germination of B.cinerea;chitin concentration above 0.5%could significantly inhibit the decay of sweet cherry gray mold.The optimum induced-resistance time of chitin was 24 h,and chitin could significantly inhibit the gray mold under cold storage,and reduce the natural decay of sweet cherry,while no adverse effect occurred on its storage quality.In addition,compared with the control,chitin significantly enhanced the defense-related enzymes of sweet cherry fruits,such as superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase(CAT),peroxidase(POD),polyphenol oxidase(PPO),chitinase(CHI)and β-1,3-glucanase(GLU).In conclusion,chitin could inhibit the mycelial growth and spore germination of B.cinerea,induce the activities of defense-related enzymes,which reducing the occurrence of gray mold of sweet cherry.This study can provide theoretical support for the application of chitin in controlling postharvest disease in sweet cherries.关键词
