Abstract

To screen out suitable peanut varieties for sprout production,25 different peanut varieties were selected for sprouts cultivating in this study,and various phenotypic traits including seed length,width,100-seed mass,hypocotyl length and width,germination rate,split rate,and mold rate were measured.Addition-ally,nutritional components such as total soluble sugar,protein,vitamin C,and moisture content were ana-lyzed to evaluate the suitability of each variety for sprout production.The results indicated that there were sig-nificant differences among the peanut varieties in terms of seed characteristics,phenotypic traits,and nutri-tional composition,which influencing the sprout quality.Cluster analysis classified these varieties into six cat-egories,and from which four superior varieties were selected for sprout production after comprehensive evalu-ation:Qinghua6,Qinghua14,Qinghua16,and Huayu36.These varieties have the characteristics of medium-size kernel,high germination rate,moderate hypocotyl length,uniform thickness,strong mildew resistance,low split rate,besides high levels of soluble total sugar,protein,Vc and moisture content.This study provid-ed an important theoretical foundation for the screening of new sprout-purpose peanut varieties.
