Failure analysis of Al2O3 dispersion strengthened copper electrode

Abstract
The Al2O3 dispersion-strengthened copper electrode produced by a factory failed after about 10000 welding points.The surface morphology,cross section structure and cross section energy spectrum of the failed electrode were observed by SEM and EDS.It is found that there is a torn tissue on the surface of the failed electrode,and there is a failure zone with a thickness of 15μm at the electrical extremity.The results of electrode cross-section analysis showed that the black mass was Al2O3 aggregate.The reason for its failure is that in the case of continuous spot welding,high temperature causes the loss of matrix copper,resulting in the accumulation of Al2O3 on the electrode surface,and then the electrode resistance increases,the welding temperature increases,and the electrode gradually fails.Extend the service life of the electrode by polishing the failed layer of the electrode,or introduce rare earth elements on the basis of the original electrode to improve the service life of the electrode.关键词
