Abstract

Objective To explore the relationship between short video overuse and sleep quality among university students,and investigate the mediating role of bedtime delay and the moderating role of self-control.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on 1 110 university students by using Pittsburgh sleep quality index,short video overuse scale for university students,bedtime delay scale,and self-control scale.A total of 1 020 valid questionnaires were collected.The relevant data were statistically analyzed.Results Short video overuse was significantly positively correlated with poor sleep quality and bedtime delay among university students(r=0.20,P<0.01;r=0.25,P<0.01),but significantly negatively correlated with self-control(r=-0.35,P<0.01).Bedtime delay played a mediating role between short video overuse and sleep quality,with an effect value of 0.14(95%CI:0.09-0.18),accounting for 63.64%of the total effect.The interaction term between short video overuse and self-control had a significantly predictive effect on bedtime delay(β=0.09,P<0.05).When the level of self-control was low,an increase in the degree of short video overuse significantly affected bedtime delay among university students.Conclusion Short video overuse directly or indirectly impairs sleep quality through bedtime delay,and self-control plays a moderating role between short video overuse and bedtime delay.
