Abstract

Objective To explore the mediating roles of adolescent self-esteem and psychological resilience in the relationship between peer relationships and school bullying.Methods A total of 408 valid questionnaires were collected from students in 2 boarding junior high schools in Jinan City by using peer relationship scale for children and adolescents,psychological resilience scale,self-esteem scale,and bully/victim questionnaire.The relationships between variables were analyzed by SPSS 21.0 software.Results Peer relationships,self-esteem,and psychological resilience of boarding school students were significantly negatively correlated with school bullying.Peer relationships had a negatively predictive effect on school bullying(β=-0.643,P<0.001).The indirect effect included 3 pathways:peer relationship→self-esteem→school bullying,peer relationship→psychological resilience→school bullying,and peer relationship→self-esteem→psychological resilience→school bullying.Conclusion Self-esteem and psychological resilience jointly influence the relationship between peer relationships and school bullying through their independent mediating effects and a chain mediating effect.
