Abstract
Objective To explore the predictive effect of parents'foreign language anxiety on their children's foreign language academic performance,and analyze the mediating roles of parents'involvement and children's foreign language anxiety.Methods A questionnaire survey was conducted on 383 parent-child dyads by using foreign language classroom anxiety scale,parents'involvement scale,parents'foreign language anxiety scale,and students'English test papers.The relevant data were statistically analyzed.Results Parents'foreign language anxiety,children's foreign language academic performance,parents'involvement,and children's foreign language anxiety were all significantly positively correlated with each other(r=0.17-0.31,P<0.01).Parents'foreign language anxiety did not directly predict their children's foreign language academic performance(β=0.09,P>0.05).The Bootstrap analysis revealed that the mediating effect included two paths:parents'foreign language anxiety→children's foreign language anxiety→children's foreign language academic performance,with a mediating effect value of 0.031(95%CI:0.005-0.065),and parents'foreign language anxiety→parents'involvement→children's foreign language anxiety→children's foreign language academic performance,with a mediation effect value of 0.009(95%CI:0.002-0.018).Conclusion Parents'foreign language anxiety has a positively predictive effect on their children's foreign language academic performance through an independent mediating effect of chldren's foreign language anxiety and a chain mediating effect together with parents'involvement.关键词
