Abstract

To clarify the dissolution process and influencing factors of cellulose from different sources in organic electrolyte solution system,four kinds of polar non-aprotic cosolvents including DMSO,DMF,Acetone and THF were mixed with quaternary ammonium base water solution including TMAH,TEAH,TPAK and TBAH,respectively.The influences of polar of cosolvent,alkyl chain length of quaternary ammonium base positive ion and mixing ratios on dissolution of cellulose from different sources were studied.Polarization microscopy,FT-IR,XRD,SEM and so on were used to evaluate the dissolution conditions of cellulose from different sources by different organic electrolytes under different co-solvent and analyzes the mechanism.The results indicated that the solubility of microcrystalline cellulose,wood pulp cellulose,and hemp cellulose were increased with the increase of quaternary ammonium alkali alkyl chains,and were not linearly related to the polarity of the co-solvent.The DMSO/TBAH mixed solvent system had the best dissolution effect on cellulose.Swelling was a crucial prerequisite step in the process of cellulose dissolution.The co-solvent and quaternary ammonium alkali efficiently dissolved cellulose through synergistic action.The formation of hydrogen bonds between OH-anion in quaternary ammonium bases and the hydroxyl groups of cellulose was the main driving force for cellulose dissolution.Polar non proton co-solvent enhances the solubility of cellulose by regulating factors such as the number of free ions in the solution,mass transfer rate,and swelling ability.
