Abstract

Objective To revise the Chinese version of the Community of Inquiry Instrument and test its reliability and validity in nursing undergraduates.Methods The"emotional presence"dimension of the Community of Inquiry Instrument was translated and cross-culturally adapted based on the Brislin model,merging with the three already translated dimensions of the instrument to form a four-dimensional Community of Inquiry Instrument.Convenience sampling was used to select 723 nursing undergraduates from October 2023 to December 2023 to test the reliability and validity of the instrument.Results Item-level content validity of the scale ranged from 0.800 to 1.000,and the scale-level content validity was 0.909.Exploratory factor analysis extracted four common factors with a cumulative variance contribution of 72.277%.Second-order confirmatory factor analysis showed the model fit well.The average extracted variance of the total scale was 0.634,and the composite reliability 0.870.The Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the total scale was 0.979,and that of each dimension ranged from 0.876 to 0.974.The re-test reliability of the total scale was 0.858,and that of each dimension ranged from 0.799 to 0.840.Conclusion The revised Chinese version of Community of Inquiry Instrument has good reliability and validity,and it can be used to measure blended learning experience of nursing undergraduates in China.
