Effects of patchouli essential oil on growth performance,immune function,and intestinal health of piglets

Abstract
The experiment aimed to investigate the effects of different levels of patchouli essential oil on the growth performance,immune function,and intestinal health of weaned piglets.Select 80 healthy weaned piglets aged 21 days were randomly divided into four groups with four replicates per group and five piglets per replicate.The control group were fed the basal diet,and the test group were fed the experimental diet supplemented with 0.1%,0.2%and 0.4%patchouli essential oil,respectively.The pre trial period was one week and the formal experiment period was four weeks.The results showed that compared with the control group,the final weight and the average daily weight of piglets in test group 2 were significantly increased(P<0.05).The ratio of feed to weight in all test groups was significantly reduced(P<0.05).The diarrhea rate of piglets in test group 2 and group 3 was significantly lower than that in control group(P<0.05).The serum immunoglobulin G content of piglets in test group 2 was significantly higher than that in control group(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the content of transforming factor-β in test group 2 and group 3 was significantly increased(P<0.05),and the content of interleukin-6 was significantly decreased(P<0.05).The concentrations of interleukin-10 in all test groups and interferon-γ in test group 2 were significantly increased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the concentrations of D-lactic acid and endotoxin of piglets in test group 2 and group 3 and the activity of diamine oxidase of piglets in test groups were significantly decreased(P<0.05).Compared with the control group,the mRNA expression of occludin and zonula occludens-1 in the intestine of test group 2 and group 3 and the mRNA expression of Toll-like receptor 4 in the intestine of test group 2 were significantly up-regulated(P<0.05).The study shows that the addition of patchouli essential oil in weaned piglets diet can improve growth performance,reduce diarrhea rate,enhance the body's immunity and improve intestinal health,and the optimal supplemental level is 0.2%.关键词
