Abstract

The experiment aimed to investigate the strength of salt tolerance during the germination stage of alfalfa seeds in order to screen alfalfa varieties suitable for cultivation in saline alkali land in the central part of the Hexi Corridor.Thirty-three alfalfa varieties were used as experimental materials,the germination method on culture dish paper was adopted,with five sodium chloride concentration gradients(0,0.3%,0.6%,0.9%,1.2%)set up,and the weighted membership function method was used for comprehensive evaluation.The results showed that 33 alfalfa varieties exhibited different trends in germination indicators and seedling growth indicators under different salt stresses,under the same salt concentration stress conditions,the inhibitory effect of the radicle is stronger than that of the plumule.The 33 alfalfa varieties was conducted using the weighted membership function method to obtain the comprehensive measurement value of salt tolerance,with the top three varieties were MF4020,WL366HQ,WL712.Based on the clustering analysis of salt tolerance coefficient,the 33 alfalfa varieties were divided into five categories:Extremely strong salt tolerance,strong salt tolerance,moderate,weak salt tolerance,and salt sensitivity.The results show that MF4020,WL366HQ,and WL712 exhibit the strongest salt tolerance and were suitable for planting in the saline-alkali lands of the central Hexi Corridor.
