Abstract

With the continuous improvement in locomotive power,adhesion performance,and freight car axle load,the traction capacity of major conventional railway trunk lines in China has steadily increased.However,the single-valve braking force of locomotives has not seen significant enhancement.According to the current railway design standards and regulations,the maximum gradient for station sites under special difficult conditions at passing and overtaking stations in conventional railways is set at 6‰.However,operational practices show that this gradient fails to meet the technical requirements for stopping operations under single-valve braking conditions without anti-drift measures,thereby restricting in-station operations after railway construction.To investigate the gradient standards for station sites at such stations and provide recommendations for future design specifications and operational regulations,this study employed a force equilibrium analysis method based on the critical state of train drifting.The analysis suggested that under single-valve braking conditions,the key factors influencing the maximum gradient of station sites at passing and overtaking stations included train-specific starting resistance,locomotive single-valve braking force,and unit aerodynamic force.Theoretical calculations were conducted based on the technical parameters of various locomotives and freight cars,supplemented by traction test data from China Railway Shanghai Group.The results showed that for single-locomotive traction,the gradient of station site should not exceed 2.5‰,while for double-locomotive traction,the maximum gradient should not exceed 4‰.Additionally,stations in wind-exposed areas,particularly those with prevailing tailwinds along the slope,should avoid adopting excessive station site gradients.It is recommended that special attention be given to the selection of station site gradients in cases where station distribution along single-track railways is uneven.Moreover,when larger station site gradients are unavoidable under particularly challenging conditions,necessary anti-drift measures should be implemented.
